The trend 'Revelation' was formed from a number of influences:
- 'End of the world' and apocalyptic themes (inspired by the Mayan's 2012 predictions).
- The Trend for post-apocalyptic cinema.
- Religious imagery such as the FInal Judgement and the story of Genesis as depicted in Milton's Paradise Lost.
- The idea of rebirth after disaster; 'Revelation' literally means 'the making known of something that was previously secret or unknown'.
This is portrayed through the dark, desolate mood and the hints of anger seen in the red of the colour palette. Lighter shades suggest the light and hope of post apocalyptic revelation.
Silhouettes are inspired by John Martin's painting The Great Wrath of His Day, with both swirling and solid shapes and the notion of strength through warrior-inspired structure. Religious features include tunics and robe-like pieces, and there is a sense of a clash between Medieval and futuristic style.
Rick Owens is know for his leather jacket designs, so they formed an important aspect of the collection, a contrast to lighter jersey knits and linen drapes.
Let me know what you think!
Love,
Pippa
